The Card-turner

Author:Louis Sachar.

Feature:Reflection, Romance, Teenage Life.

Written by the world best story-teller Louis Sachar, the book “The cardturner” is actually the last book he wrote. Read it and see what this great writer has to say.

Alton Richards, the main character, is an awkward teenager who has just lost his girlfriend to his best friend. His mother forces him into the company of his wealthy great uncle, an aloof, blind bridge genius called Lester, in the hope that Alton will worm his way into his rich relative's affections and get the family a mention in Lester's will.

Alton takes a job as the "card turner" – telling Lester what cards he holds and playing them when he's told to do so. But Alton has competition from another young relative, the beautiful but possibly insane Toni Castaneda.

As in Holes, the dark secrets of the past are distorting any chances of happiness in the present.

The Hunger Games Book Series

Author:Suzanne Collins.

Feature:Action, Future, Romance.

As unrealistic and awkward the setting of this story is, this apocalyptic and somewhat 'back to the history' future story has made to the silver-screen not once, but twice. The story of Katniss Everdeen is certainly a story that we want to avoid, where boys and girls are forced to appear in a live TV show called Hunger Games, where only one rule applies: "Killed or be killed". The writer depicted some of the bloodiest and most curl acts that human beings could do to stay alive, but at the same time portrayed some of the most treasured values of humanity.

This book series is for senior form KYC students and junior form students who want to challenge themselves.
